In 2017 I rode the 1333 Bikeathon for the first time. This experience brought me face-to-face with the disturbing reality that as many as 10 Sri Lankan’s take their own lives every day, and, many more attempt to do so. Amongst other factors these events arise as a result of financial stress, mental illness, domestic and sexual violence, and a lack of acceptance of homesexuality.
In 2018 I will be riding the 1333 Bikeathon again. The Bikeathon serves two purposes. Firstly, by riding over 1333km over 13 days, the riding group brings attention to the 1333 ‘lifeline like’ service. This service provides a free of charge and confidential phone service to the people of Sri Lanka.
These sorts of services are not provided by government. Secondly, I am hoping to raise funds through sponsorship. All funds will go directly towards the operation of the 1333 Helpline which is largely staffed by volunteers. I will be funding all of my own costs.
I hope that you will feel able to help me through sponsorship. You can sponsor me here.
