I’m so honoured and excited to be a part of the CCC team for 2016.
I believe that health encompasses all aspects of our lives, not just the physical, and I know that I am happiest when I can achieve balance in all areas — physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. When I first heard about the 1333Bikeathon, the idea of participating resonated with me because it seemed to embrace all of those things. I’m new to riding and I know that it’s going to be tough, but I really feel that it’s too amazing an opportunity to let pass by.
I consider myself blessed to have grown up surrounded by people who taught (and still teach) me the importance of compassion and open communication. My support network allows me to feel safe to acknowledge and express my feelings, and that is something that should be afforded to everyone.
Mental illness isn’t something that discriminates based on age, race, gender, social status, or any other thing — it can affect anyone. When we release the stigma though, when we share our stories with one another, we’re given the opportunity to connect on a deeper level, and I believe that that connection is truly invaluable. It takes a lot of courage to ask for help but the CCCline is dedicated to supporting and empowering the people of Sri Lanka.
I feel very grateful to be a part of this cause. I’m super excited for the personal challenge, and even more so for the opportunity to see some beautiful things and connect with some amazing people.
Please sponsor me so we can reach our fundraising target to keep the phone lines open at CCCline1333 for those going through crisis, or simply want to talk to someone about their problems. THANK YOU!
